ABOUT Christina Boyd

You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what's burning inside you, and we edit to let the fire show through the smoke. Arthur Plotnik

Christina Boyd wears many hats as she is a writer, great reader, an editor under her own banner, The Quill Ink, LLC, a reviewer at Amazon, Goodreads, and Austenprose, and an artist. Since 2013, Christina has self-published five multi-author anthologies and edited over fifty books. A life member of Jane Austen Society of North America and Pacific Northwest Writers Association, Christina lives quietly in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with her dear Mr. B and a silver Labrador—now that her Boydlings have gone off on adventures. Her own English fantasy came true thanks to actor Henry Cavill when they sipped champagne together atop the London Eye. True story. You can Google it.

Her debut novel Woman in the Painting was a finalist in the Unpublished Literary Contest at the Pacific Northwest Writers Conference #PNWA2022 and also Romance Writers of America's chapter, Hearts Through History, Romance Writers 19th Annual Romance through the Ages Contest 2022 and 2023. Christina is seeking agent representation.

You've written "the end." Let's take your work to the next level.

Content edit: As an indie contractor, Christina assures content is concise, correct, easy to comprehend, and maintains continuity in its details. When more substantive editing is required, she works one-on-one with the author to address weaknesses in story structure, inconsistent pacing, poor character development, and contrivances.

Line edit: A line edit entails a review of each line to prepare for publication and proofreading for grammar, punctuation, spelling, consistency, and word usage.

Final proofing: Proofing is a last run-through to catch surface problems. It is not re-working the text or re-arranging content. Think: correcting cosmetic errors/last step/final eyes.

You will be asked to sign an editorial contract before we begin working together.

Joana Starnes I’ve had the great pleasure of working with Christina on five projects to date, and it was wonderful to contribute to all the Quill Collective anthologies, along with so many authors I admire. Christina’s drive and energy made all those projects happen, and her enthusiasm and dedication were amazing, from inception all the way to eye-catching and inventive marketing. She has a fabulous way of making everything come together, of inspiring people and helping them produce quality work. She has a great eye for detail and for the flow of the story; she is positive, supportive and buoyant, and dedicated to making every book as good as it can possibly be. She is incredibly diligent and committed, always constructive, patient and approachable, and she puts her heart and soul into every project she is involved in. The editing aspect is a major part, but by no means everything. She brings together authors, proof-readers, artists, designers, the book-formatting team, etc. so that the final product ticks all the boxes, and she’s an absolute whiz at marketing! (Thanks again for all your hard work, Christina! It wouldn’t have happened without you!)

Karen M Cox Christina and I have worked together on several projects—short stories to novel-length books—and I've benefitted from her expertise in developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing. She is dedicated, competent, and always works to make my work the best it can be. I would recommend her to novice and seasoned authors alike.

Jan Hahn  You're a writer's best friend, always full of encouragement and enthusiasm no matter how much writer's block hinders our work. Hope all your future endeavors are super successful!

Jenetta James To the estimable Christina: speed editor, scene tweaker, character masseur, error corrector, US/UK diplomatic language envoy, head-hopping trouble shooter, big picture observer, social media coordinator, confidence builder, friend: thank you.

Beau North As always, the lion's share of my thanks goes to my editor, Christina Boyd, whose skill and vision continue to make me a better writer. Her faith in me has never wavered, and I couldn't ask for a better partner in my work.

Harry Frost I've worked with Christina on two audiobook projects, and can't speak highly enough of her abilities as an editor, proofer and director. A writer herself, she gets the balance just right between encouragement and straightforward constructive criticism; never "no, but," always "yes, and."  What really shines through is her care for the project and belief in the people she works with. She takes real pleasure in seeing people succeed, is a tireless advocate, and it's no exaggeration to say I would never have become a narrator without her.

Cass Grafton Christina is an amazing editor, who is deeply committed to helping authors hone their craft. She is honest, encouraging, and full of wisdom on how to get the best out of your characters, scenes and plot lines. I have worked with her twice now, once on a contemporary romance and currently on a historical, and her knowledge, professionalism, and kind encouragement are the perfect blend to give any writer confidence in their editor and their works. Highly recommended!

Christina Morland Can I just say that it has been such a joy to be part of the last three Quill Collective books? I just glanced over at my bookshelves, and it's magical seeing the spines of Elizabeth: Obstinate, Headstrong Girl, Dangerous to Know, and Rational Creatures. What a gift, knowing that I had the opportunity to work with such a wonderful editor and many talented writers! And since I don't get the chance to read nearly as much Austenesque as I'd like, the collections (including The Darcy Monologues and Yuletide) have been such a great way for me to get to know more authors in the community.

Caitlin Williams Christina is great to deal with and really cares about your story and making sure it's historically accurate as well a smooth read.

Hilary Grossman The experience was spectacular! Christina has a keen eye for detail. Her suggestions and insights were spot-on, and she transformed my manuscript into a solid story. Christina is also extremely easy to work with—she's kind (even while offering constructive criticism), reliable, and is quick to reply to questions. I can't wait to work with Christina again and again!

Anngela Schroeder I have worked with Christina Boyd on two separate projects and have been impressed by her professionalism and knowledge. She is extremely thorough in her editing and detailed in her advice. She does not change the writer's voice, but only enhances it through her suggestions. She also recognizes the story is the writer's creation and respects the feelings and emotions which went into the production of each piece. She takes as much ownership of the project as the writer, and answers emails and messages months after the stories have been completed and published to make sure not only is your physical product ideal, but your emotional state has rebounded as well. Her support on a personal level exceeds any hope I had of working with an editor. I learned so much and can only anticipate what she will continue to teach me on future collaborations.

Leigh Dreyer When I first started looking for an editor for my trilogy, I knew I needed someone who would be able to take my vision and refine it. Especially as a debut author, I needed someone to be honest (sometimes brutal) and help me "kill my darlings." Christina has been kind, professional, and an invaluable part of my author experience and honestly, I don't know that I would have moved past my 1st book without her. From a non-personal position, I love her Quill Collective anthologies. They have all be an excellent sampling of each author included and allowed me to grab snippets of storied when I don't have time for more. They are well written, well edited works and I have enjoyed every last one.

J. Marie Croft Having worked with the lovely and well-read Christina Boyd on six projects to date, I know her to be a truly accomplished editor—one who pushes for improvement but does so in a caring, encouraging way. Meticulous to a fault and with a knack for knowing exactly what readers want, she delivers the best possible finished product into their hands. All those four-and-a-half star ratings on Amazon are testimonials to Christina's talent, and I hope to collaborate with her again sometime. As Pride and Prejudice's Lady Catherine de Bourgh would say, she is a treasure and a great proficient.

Katie Oliver  I had the pleasure of working with Christina when she edited my story, “Wicked Game,” for the Dangerous to Know anthology. Her knowledge of the Austen canon is impressive and her attention to detail is unrivaled. I’m by no means a historical writer, so penning a story about George Wickham set during the Regency period was a bit of a challenge, to say the least. But with Christina’s editorial skill and Austen knowledge, she helped me whip the story (and Wickham!) into shape. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Under the pen name Katie Oliver, I’ve worked with many editors over the years, and Ms. Boyd is one of the best. She is thorough, professional, and knowledgeable.

Elizabeth Grace, voice actor Working with Christina is an absolute pleasure. She is an incredible editor and oozes professionalism and warmth in equal measure. I have never been involved in a book tour like the one Christina organized for Elizabeth: OHG. She helped the audiobook reach so many more listeners than I could have imagined. She supports the success of everyone she works with, and there’s a reason so many people consider her a friend as well as a creative partner.

Susan Adriani Working with Christina at The Quill Ink was a wonderful experience. Not only is she knowledgeable, professional, and approachable, she sincerely made me feel like the story I wanted to tell was as important to her as it was to me. Every critical edit, every honest remark, every compliment on a line or a scene well written left a lasting and significant impression, and has helped me become a better writer. Christina's careful attention to even the most minute details has not only made me more aware of what I write, but of how I write it. I'm looking forward to working with her again and again. Many thanks, Christina!

Sophia Rose Quality professional work from start to finish and a gold-standard partner who makes an author and book shine.

Ada Bright I expected Christina to be wonderful because I knew others that had worked with her, and I was not disappointed. But I was surprised and so grateful at how much of a valuable collaborator she was willing to be.

Karalynne Mackrory I’ve worked with Christina many times with several of my books. She has an extensive knowledge for historical accuracy and is always considerate of not eliminating my voice while making my writing the best it can be. I have learned a lot from my interactions with her.

Maggie Aldrich Christina did a magnificent job editing my book, Back in My Day. She’s thorough, communicative, and prompt. A delight to work with as well. I look forward to working with her again in the future!

Lona Manning I got to know Christina when she graciously included two of my short stories in her Austenesque anthologies. I was impressed—no, amazed—at the energy, commitment, and attention to detail she brought to every project from start to finish. From project conception to launch and marketing, Christina was outstanding.

Nicole Clarkston Christina Boyd has a clear eye for drawing the most impact out of an author's prose. Even historical fiction, which tends to be more wordy and flowery than modern, will benefit from her deft touch and will flow better for the modern reader. The best part of working with her, however, is that she becomes your biggest cheerleader. Highly recommend!

Kay Bea My incredible editor, Christina. She pushed and pulled and finessed and persuaded me to create a story that was better than I thought it could be.

Jessie Lewis Christina is a conscientious, diligent, and committed editor. Working with her was both easy and fun, and her ideas for new projects are always exciting. It’s a privilege to have been involved in one.
