CHRISTINA: I have followed Gia Stones' writing career for several years, and when I saw she had a new contemporary romance release, I was thrilled for this interview opportunity.
How do you decide on the heat level for your books?
GIA: I love this question, and my books do vary greatly in the heat level. For my "Houston Heights and Houston Nights" series, the heat is high. But for "Pride and Politics," we are on a low simmer in the first book. The heat is really determined by the characters and where they are at in their story.
CHRISTINA: That makes so much sense. I love steamy romance books, but the steam has to be intentional and not just for the sake of
What is your current project or latest release?
GIA: FFS: Politically Correct released on October 10, 2025! This is the first book in my "Pride and Politics" series. I’m excited as it released on the same day I attended the 1984 Book Ban Book Fair in Houston, Texas. I really felt that this book would be perfect to release on this date as it is a story about a woman running for political office in Texas.
CHRISTINA: Have you gone on an author pilgrimage or research trip?
GIA: Yes! While I was writing Sweet Little Liar, there is a scene that takes place at the River Oaks Country Club in Houston. I had scanned the internet for photos of the interior of the club but came up with little to nothing. I am not one to give up on something so easily, so I posted in a local group asking if anyone was a member or had been there and had photos.
Surprisingly, a woman responded that she was a member and she would get me in so that I could explore the club. I am so thankful that she did, as the club was extremely different on site then what I had imagined it would be.
And I spent quite a bit of time at the Texas Capitol for “research” and to get insight for FFS: Politically Correct.
CHRISTINA: That's fantastic that you were able to get in and experience the club. Kinda fun!
Is there one of your characters you most identify with and why?

GIA: This question makes me smile. My friends would immediately shout out one character in particular, but I have to keep reminding them that the book is fiction! There are little pieces or moments that are in each book that have something from me. I think only a small group of friends would know what the moments or pieces were, and I think it’s best to keep it that way. Ha!
CHRISTINA: So funny! They must really enjoy recognizing similarities.
Do you hide secrets in your novels only a select few might know?
GIA: Yes! In FFS: Politically Correct, there are a few things that only a tiny amount of people in the Texas political bubble would know. And I challenge them to find those Easter eggs.
CHRISTINA: How did writing your first book change your writing process?
GIA: My first book that is not yet published, I was a pantster. My second book, I was also a pantster. But by my third book, I became a hardcore plotster. Now, I plot out the book and then go chapter by chapter with what will happen, like a mini-synopsis. Of course, as I write, things might go differently due to characters that had secrets or ulterior motives that I was unaware of with the initial plotting. They can be sneaky!
CHRISTINA: I love how your craft has evolved and that you are open to change as your characters speak to you. Thanks so much for your time for this interview. Best wishes on your latest, FFS: Politically Correct! It's on my list to read next.
