ABOUT THE BOOK
Sizzling chemistry and tender friendship develops between two accidental roommates in this hilarious rom-com from the author of As Seen on TV.
Sabrina is too busy with grad school and her job as a library page to think about dating. Until her elderly roommate, Marcia, invites her estranged grandson, Adam, to move into their two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan temporarily to “find himself.” Sabrina doesn’t mind sharing the small space with Adam if it helps Marcia repair her relationship with her grandson. But she’s not expecting to fall for him herself. Adam is not only gorgeous, he’s kind, funny, shares her love of reading, and clearly adores Marcia. After one too many accidental midnight rendezvous in the bathroom (him shirtless), the tension between them is hotter than ever. But they’re not the only ones feeling the heat. After Marcia has a health scare, her doctors advise that one of her younger roommates must go.
In a comical and sexy battle to prove who deserves to stay, the two pull out all the stops. All's fair in love and real estate, but in the end, victory is not so sweet when winning the apartment could mean losing each other.
REVIEW by Christina Boyd
Roommating by Meredith Schorr is a heartfelt rom com set in NYC and deftly balances chemistry with relatable emotions. The story explores the complicated, ever-shifting relationship between Sabrina and Adam—from rivalry to affection and back again—creating a delicious tension that kept me hooked from start to finish.
What truly sets this book apart is the layered relationships. Sabrina and Adam’s fierce affection for Adam’s grandmother and Sabrina’s roommate, Marcia, mirrors the strained bonds they each share with their own parents.
Marcia tells him how happy she is to have him there. She still says some version of this at least five times a day, but I love to hear it. Then Adam says he wishes they didn’t waste so much time letting his dad keep them apart. He says at least once a day. My throat thickens at that touching moment, as it always does, until a wave of guilt crashes over me for eavesdropping, even though it’s not on purpose. It’s a two-bedroom apartment, not a mansion. —Chapter 8
This parallel adds a touching depth to the narrative, showing how family—whether chosen or biological—shapes us in unexpected ways.
Despite their mutual frustrations and the hurdles they face, both external and internal, Sabrina and Adam’s determination to build something meaningful is inspiring. The novel captures how sometimes the biggest battles we face are with ourselves and how love and friendship can be the catalysts for growth and healing.
I always enjoy how Schorr weaves real-life places and pop culture into her stories. The authentic dialogue and honest warmth make Roommating—a story about unlikely roommates, messy families, and the push-and-pull of learning to live and love on your own terms—an ideal beach read.
